La Daille, a downstream hamlet with many assets
If you’re passing through Val d’Isère, or if you’re a local, you’re bound to have seen this charming hamlet in Val d’Isère called La Daille. This typically Savoyard name refers etymologically to the Scots pine, the tree that lines the surrounding forests and covers the mythical rock faces of Val d’Isère throughout the seasons.
This pretty spot is not the most visited, even though it is steeped in the history of the Val d’Isère ski resort, as well as having a number of assets. Firstly, its location at the foot of the slopes means you can take the funicular or gondola to the start of the slopes. You can also take to the famous Oreiller-Killy red run, made famous by Olympic alpine skiing champion Jean-Claude Killy and used for the Critérium de la Première Neige since 1966. It is located above the hamlet of La Daille. La Daille is also the starting point for a number of ski courses, and both covered and overhead car parks are available, with free direct access to the resort via the nearby free shuttle bus service.

This winter, the shopping centre got a facelift with a project costing no less than €6 million to redesign the spaces and renovate the building’s energy efficiency.
